SMC Networks Earns WiFi Certification for Two of Its Products

By Brian Solomon, TMCnet Web Editor

SMC Networks (News - Alert) received WiFi-certified 802.11n draft 2.0 designation for both its SMC Barricade N Draft 11n Gigabit Broadband Router and SMC EZ Connect N Draft 11n Wireless USB2.0 Adapter from the Wi-Fi Alliance, the company announced today.

The Wi-Fi Alliance's (News - Alert) testing and certification program helps assure interoperability among 802.11n draft 2.0 products, adherence to security protocols and backward compatibility with previous generations of Wi-Fi gear. The newly-certified SMC products have also achieved certification for the optional Wi-Fi Protected Setup(TM) program, which is designed to ease the task of setting up and configuring security in Wi-Fi networks.

The 802.11n draft 2.0 wireless networking products offer the bandwidth advantages, speed and distance advantages of 802.11n along with backward and cross-vendor compatibility with 802.11 b/g wireless. The products are excellent for such demanding applications as high-def video streaming, network gaming, file sharing and VoIP, and are able to transfer data at rates of up to 300Mbps.

“SMC Networks is committed to efficient and secure wireless connectivity that is fully interoperable with multi-vendor and legacy devices,” said SMC Networks product manager James Harris.

The SMC Barricade N Draft 11n Gigabit Broadband Router offers total all-in-one networking for sharing and connecting a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The EZ Connect N Draft 11n Wireless USB2.0 Adapter provides 802.11n coverage and speed benefits for wirelessly connecting both notebook and desktop computers.
