According to a recent report from Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro Group, the world Set-top Box (STB) market witnessed a decline during the third quarter of 2009. The 10 percent decline in growth is estimated at $2.6 billion.
The Set-top Box Quarterly report provided by the Dell’Oro Group provides exhaustive coverage on STB market world wide, details calculation tables addressing manufacturers revenue, number units exported, average selling prices for cable, satellite, IP set-top boxes and the cost of standalone digital video recorders (DVDRs). The report further covers the working capabilities of leading vendors such as ADB, Amino, Cisco, Echostar, Humax, Motorola, Pace, Samsung, Thomson, and UTStarcom (News - Alert).
In a release, Greg Collins, vice president at Dell’Oro Group, said “The global economic recession, with its shrinking incomes, high unemployment, and tight credit market, has resulted in significantly less home construction and fewer residential home moves, causing pay-TV operators to struggle to gain gross subscriber additions,”
“Consumers, now faced with less disposable income, are more apt to choose less expensive, lower-tier services, thus boosting the low-end set-top box market,” Collins added.
The Dell’Oro report further enumerates the drop in sales of Motorola (News - Alert) and Cisco IP STB units in the North American market due to the reduced response from new subscribers. While detailing the growth at China the report mentions about the continued dominant growth by Huawei (News - Alert) over ZTE and UTStarcom. Nevertheless ZTE maintain to retain its hold as the third largest seller of IP STB units all over the world.
Dell’Oro Group is considered to be a reliable source for market information on networking and telecommunication industries. They provide detailed object oriented analysis on current markets to benefit the component manufacturer, equipment vendors and venture capital firms to make fact-based planned decisions.
