Mobile security client software market will reach $1.6 billion in 2013. Leading the growth will be IDS/IPS and content security solutions, according to the latest Infonetics Research report.
The 2009 edition of the company’s Security Appliances and Software for Mobile Networks and Devices report, found that IDS/IPS and content security solutions will lead the growth.
With the rise in the sale of modern mobile devices such as smartphones, customers are showing increased interest in m-commerce. This provides a great opportunity for hackers to get the details of financial transactions performed over a mobile phone. Both the customers and the software providers need to make rapid progresses in ensuring the security of mobile devices, states the report.
Infonetics Research (News - Alert) said that the risk of hacking has increased a lot with the introduction of internet friendly smartphones (iPhones, Windows Mobile phones, Android (News - Alert)-based phones, others). Also, North America currently lags behind EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and Asia Pacific in total smartphone shipments, but leads in adoption for mobile security clients, states the report.
“This is a very young market, and our growth projections are explosive, riding the compound wave of smartphone growth, growth in the use of rich Internet applications on smartphones, and hacker interest in developing exploits for phones,” said Jeff Wilson, Infonetics Research's principal analyst, network security, in a statement. “For now, hackers continue to focus their energy on the hundreds of millions of desktop computers around the globe.”
According to the report, the revenue for security appliances and software for mobile networks grew 25 percentin 2008. The report provides market size, forecasts, and analysis for security appliances and software sold to mobile service providers for protecting their infrastructure.
In another survey published last December, the company predicted that Security appliances and software sold to service providers to protect their mobile networks will total $889 million in worldwide sales by 2011. Infonetics’ report, “Security Appliances and Software for Mobile Networks Market Outlook,” tracks integrated security appliances above and below $30,000, network-based intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) products, and content security gateways.
