The Strategy Analytics ProductTRAX program has announced its Q3 list of top selling consumer handsets in the U.S. market. The list was topped by Motorola (News - Alert), with the best-selling RAZR and KRZR handsets. The top seven among the list of top selling handsets was populated by Motorola and LG handsets.
Over the years, mobile phone trends have evolved radically. Consumers today seek more than the traditional features in cell phones. One of their top priorities is the sleekness of the phone. Additionally, phones that are equipped with a wide range of features are natural top sellers. In recent times, mobile phones with modern connectivity technology have caught the fancy of consumers. 3G
has caught up with the intelligent buyer. According to Chris Ambrosio, a Director in the Wireless Practice at Strategy Analytics (News - Alert), 3G devices are at the top of consumers’ priority list. Apparently, these devices account for 55 percent of these top selling mobile phone volumes.
“This will continue to grow during Q4,” said Ambrosio. “While the iPhone (News - Alert) gets the headlines, the “Sync” from Samsung and the “Chocolate” from LG quietly stole the show in the category of iconic, 3G feature phones. Samsung, in particular, is well-positioned to dominate 3G sales during the critical Q4 holiday season.”
“Overall, the average retail price paid for these top ten handsets was 19 percent higher than the market average; and we continue to see strong upgrade dynamics continue to supplement U.S. market growth,” said Barry Gilbert, vice president of the ProductTRAX services at Strategy Analytics. “Motorola, however, despite selling four of the top ten models in Q3, realized an ASP of only $80, nearly 40 percent lower than the group average.”
The US Q3 2007 list of Best Selling Consumer Handsets is:
- Motorola RAZR V3
- Motorola RAZR V3m
- LG VX8300
- Apple (News - Alert) iPhone
- LG Chocolate VX8550/8500
- Motorola MOTOKRZR K1m
- Samsung SGH-A707
- LG VX5300
- Sanyo (News - Alert) Katana II
- Motorola V323i/V325i
