Report: IP Adoption Driving European Business Telephony, VoIP
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan says that IP adoption is growing in the European market. As more and more companies migrate to IP PBX (News - Alert), they are increasingly taking action to expand deployment in such categories as IP desk phones, softphones, SIP phones and wireless IP phones.

“The overall growth rate in the endpoint market is above that of the European GDP growth,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Dorota Oviedo. “This is attributed to the low penetration of IP phones in a relatively significant IP PBX installed base, the growing attractiveness of softphone as a complementary client and the increase in demand for enterprise mobility solutions.”

TalkSwitch announced the release of TalkSwitch management software version 6.10, a free upgraded version equipped with new call handling features, making TalkSwitch systems more customizable. Natural Convergence (News - Alert) to Target Carriers
Natural Convergence a supplier of a hosted VoIP application, previously emphasized channel partners for distribution of its product. Now the company is taking straight aim at the carrier market as its primary distribution focus. In preparation for that move the company has changed its sales force by adding executives with carrier sales experience, including Pat Smith, new CEO and Bill Crank, president. Crank notes that Natural Convergence already has a “couple of large Tier One partners, one large cable partner and a U.S. ILEC.” He also sees “a great opportunity to extend partnerships with five or six new carriers.” That suggests carriers now believe the hosted VoIP market is ripe for attack.

Verizon (News - Alert) Business Powers Thing5 SaaS
Under an agreement with Verizon Business, Thing5 said that it is providing its hosted platform through a software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) model to approximately 1,300 hotels, covering more than 275,000 phones. Thing5 explained that applications are delivered as managed IP services over the Web, which helps to control setup and operational costs, and customers pay for the computing resources utilized. Verizon Business (News - Alert) is providing the IP trunking that connects hotel properties to Thing5 data centers. The newly available Verizon Business service, Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks, enables on-demand sharing of under-utilized trunk capacity.

Payter Launches Mobile Payments for 9,000 Dutch Retailers
Payter announced today that it’s given the go-ahead for the nationwide rollout of payment by mobile telephone in Netherlands. Payter says its aim is to make the Netherlands one of the world’s leaders in “mobile payment convenience.” To accomplish this goal, Payter has the ambition to add 100,000 mobile users in 2009, company officials say. Payter and CCV, an electronic payment systems company, entered into an alliance to achieve nationwide acceptance of mobile payments, tickets, coupons, loyalty and giftcards by using POS terminals with an integrated Payter reader. The 9,000 retailers are spread across six major Dutch cities: Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven and Arnhem.
