A Day in the Life: Netcentrex

By Greg Galitzine

So here we are, hard at work on the upcoming Netcentrex-sponsored Triple Play Symposium when the news hits. At first its a call over the cubicle wall, Hey, Greg! Did you see this Netcentrex news?

Suddenly Im awash in e-mailing and making phone calls and then, lo and behold, theres an article up on TMCnet.com explaining why the just announced acquisition of Netcentrex (news -alerts) by Comverse is a good thing and what it means for everybody.

According to Brian Mahony, vice president of marketing at Netcentrex, ...the move benefits Netcentrex in several key ways:

Complements the Netcentrex portfolio of VoIP-based applications with Comverses market-leading billing, content, and messaging/mobility applications.

Gives Netcentrex improved access to Tier 1 mobile service providers.

Provides Netcentrex with the channels and operational scale to compete more effectively and support customers, which will help accelerate our growth especially in the Americas market and in Asia.

So lets review: Complementary product lines; access to Tier 1 carriers; increased channel and operational scale... ok, then. That makes good sense. Did I mention that Comverse is paying up to $180 million for the pleasure? For the pleasure of Netcentrex investors Im sure, who had committed around $34 million of their hard earned money over the last few years, and will now enjoy a nice multiple on their investment.

According to Mahony, The combined company will be a powerhouse in the IMS and FMC markets with offerings spanning VoIP, triple/quad play, content and messaging applications, and billing and OSS.

All of these benefits will come much faster than our planned IPO would have provided. Rather than scaling Netcentrex organically, this move gives Netcentrex instant resources and credibility to grow our existing business model and also to provide a more broad solution set in a world that is increasingly dominated by IMS/FMC architectures.

We wish our friends at both Netcentrex and Comverse well.

The Show Must Go On

Getting back to the Triple Play Symposium, this years three-city event tour is the second such gathering in as many years. Building on the success of the 2005 version, this years Symposium covers topics important to service providers seeking to offer triple play and quad play services to their subscribers including: VoIP, IPTV, IP-VoD, IP-Video Middleware, OSS, FMC, and IMS. Attendees will explore triple play business models, participate in service provider executive round-tables, see the latest available market research from industry experts, view innovative triple play demonstrations, and attend valuable networking receptions, where they can develop relationships with like minded individuals.

The complete schedule for the multi-city 2006 Triple Play Symposium is as follows:

 June 13 Dallas, Texas

 June 15 Boston, Massachusetts

 June 21 Paris, France
