In an effort to optimize Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications and provide its global workforce with hands-free efficiency, Oracle has selected the Plantronics (News - Alert) Voyager 510-USB Bluetooth headset system.

Oracle employees will now be able to combine the Voyager 510-USB with a VoIP-enabled laptop and mobile phone to use a single wireless headset across multiple applications.

Employees can utilize voice commands to log into Oracle (News - Alert) Collaboration Suite, listen to and draft new e-mails, and access calendar items, address book contacts and other information. As a result, these employees can realize improved efficiency through faster communications and decision making and enhanced collaboration.

“We evaluated numerous headset offerings to complement Oracle’s VoIP deployment, and the Plantronics Voyager 510-USB is clearly ahead of the pack for audio performance, ease of use and style and comfort,” said Mark Sunday, senior vice president and CIO, Oracle, in a statement on Wednesday. “We are also very impressed with Voyager’s performance with Oracle Collaboration Suite. Now employees have a single wireless headset for all of their voice and data communications.”

Oracle recognized several benefits of the Plantronics Voyager 510-USB, including a noise-canceling microphone and wind-reduction technology to improve sound clarity; Plantronics’ proprietary multipoint technology enables Oracle users to switch between multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices; users can enjoy hands-free calls up to 33-feet away from their laptop; the system includes a simple plug-and-play USB adapter; and the headset is lightweight and discreet for all-day wear.

According to Maria Maskiewicz, global corporate procurement and IT vendor management, Oracle, ergonomics and hands-free benefits were the key factors in selecting the Voyager 510-USB. The headset is extremely comfortable and will help reduce neck and back pain associated with extended handset usage.

Plantronics PerSonoCall software provides Oracle employees added benefits as its remote ring detection to allow users to wirelessly answer/end PC telephony calls away from their working area.

In addition to the Voyager 510-USB use, Oracle employees are also using the Plantronics CS50-USB for VoIP calls within the office. This premium wireless VoIP system is designed for in-office use to provide excellent fidelity and range.

Mobility in communications has become more and more in demand as organizations are finding that efficiency is a result of employees not being tied to a desk all day. This win for Plantronics is significant in that it will provide not only a large workforce with its headsets, but also a tremendous name in the industry. This will certainly provide an aggressive push for Plantronics in a competitive situation, likely driving future wins and greater market share.
