The launch of Toshiba’s high definition DVD player has been widely publicized.  It is, after all, the next logical step in enhanced viewing.  And certainly, enjoying HD DVDs in the comfort of ones home is an experience many have been anticipating.  But in today’s fast-paced business environment, business people are constantly on the go, moving from on client to another.  They, too, will now be able to enjoy HD quality movies as they move between cities.  NVIDIA Corporation has made it known that its technology will power Toshiba (News - Alert)’s first installation of its HD DVD-ROM in a notebook PC.

Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS), is equipping its newest notebook line, the Toshiba Qosmio, with a HD DVD-ROM.  Specifically, the Qosmio G35-AV650 is being showcased by NVIDIA at this week’s E3 Expo in Los Angeles.

The new notebook features NVIDIA’s GeForce Go 7600 graphics processing unit (GPU), the hardware which enables the playback of high definition movies with its expected superb picture clarity.

The new GeForce Go 7600 GPU is part of the GeForce Go 7 Series of NVIDIA notebook GPUs.  It provides the combination of HD video processors and software to delivers HD-quality video to the PC.  It also supports the latest in realistic real-time gaming and includes a high-performance 3D architecture specifically designed for Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows Vista, the industry’s first operating system that requires a GPU to realize its full potential.  Finally, the GPU incorporates advanced power management features that help enhance performance.  The reduced power consumption and lower heat generation also result in cooler and smaller notebooks with increased battery life.

"HD will bring a new video experience to laptop users," said Jeff Fisher, Senior Vice President of the GPU Business at NVIDIA. "The powerful NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 GPU with PureVideo technology accelerates video playback with minimal CPU utilization and low power consumption, delivering a high quality video experience for PC users on the go."
