German Secure.me Offers Enhanced Facebook Security for Parents

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Online security has been a priority for most families ever since the Internet's infancy, but with its explosion in popularity, keeping your kids safe has become a much larger task. While sites like Facebook (News - Alert) are always looking to keep their subscribers as safe as humanly possible when using their site, there can be hiccups. Not that long ago, several Facebook users were hit with a code that, when pasted into their browser windows, pulled up all kinds of pornographic images in their Facebook news feed.

Security on the Internet in general and Facebook in particular can actually be big business if handled the right way. Over the last few years there have been WiFi (News - Alert) companies that are geared fully towards protecting their customers. PRIVATE WiFi has even managed to combine Facebook and security with their latest contest

Of course, some Facebook users are going to be plenty safe all by themselves while their children might actually be in harm’s way a bit more. The German firm secure.me is looking to go global and they are doing so by trying to offer their customers peace of mind when it comes to their kids' use of Facebook. Secure.me is marketing itself towards parents who want to be able to monitor what their kids are doing on Facebook, while at the same time monitoring their own account to make sure that the Facebook account is not hurting their professional career.

Secure.me founder Christian Sigl said his service is exactly what parents are looking for when it comes to Facebook use. “We know that children and parents often don’t like being Facebook friends with each other. And we also know that parents don’t have the time to continuously monitor Facebook. We developed secure.me to solve this problem.”

Secure.me's offerings seem pretty advanced. Included  in the security package is photo recognition software that will find a picture of your child even if they aren't tagged. The program also offers up suggestions of Facebook apps to avoid as well as profiles that should stay off your friends list for various reasons including spam.

Secure.me is 100 percent free, so there should be no barrier to trying out the service if you have children who are also using Facebook.
