Curtailing Screen Time and Other Ways to Protect Your Family's Health and Well-Being

By Mostafa Razzak, Principal, JMR Connect

Many of us are ready to try to get things back to normal in terms of the balancing our work and life schedules. Since we are planning to travel, return to the office, and adopt good lifestyle habits once again, now is the perfect time to reflect on what we can do to improve our family’s health and well-being. Let’s examine a few areas in which we can do so below:

Gun Liability Insurance

If you own a legal firearm, it may become a reality soon that the city that you reside in will require you to purchase gun liability insurance. While homeowner’s and renter’s insurance may give you some coverage against the loss of a firearm, they do not cover damages. So, whether mandated by your city or not, it may be worth looking into choosing the right gun liability insurance to give you some peace of mind. Purchasing such policies also helps in terms of making us more conscious of gun safety as we are more likely to secure firearms properly.

Make Sure to Utilize Your Paid (News - Alert) Time Off

Speaking of mental health, it’s good to take some time away from the office (or the screen at home, these days). So many of us are given paid time off by employers, yet 55% of us do not fully utilize this PTO. Perhaps it is time to go on vacation, and there are so many areas to explore in our own backyard and region by exploring the outdoors.

Try to Curtail Your Screen Addiction

Speaking of screens, our screen addictions have been at all-time highs given peaks and valleys of global pandemic, surges, war, and a seemingly never-ending news cycle. While adults may be able to mentally handle all this undue duress and screen time, it is wreaking havoc on children and introducing them to inappropriate content at alarming levels. Though it may seem like a slippery slope, unlimited screen time can do a significant amount of damage, especially to children.

Invest in Quality of Sleep

While it may not be possible for us to travel to or afford going to the vacation spot of our dreams now, there are little things that we can do in life in the way of affordable luxury that will enable us to enjoy better day-to-day quality of life. Getting the right amount of sleep – estimated at 7-9 hours a night for most healthy adults – as well as high-quality linens and bedding can significantly improve your sleep.

Hire Slow, Fire Fast

Not just at home but also in the workplace, we need to be able to make strategic decisions that impact us and those around us. That’s why utilizing the adage of hire slow, fire fast may be more important than ever before. This should create a more positive work experience and keep you in better work/ life balance for all.

In Conclusion

Now is the opportune time to make sure we are positioning our lives for a position of strength and success. Protecting our health and well-being in all dimensions of our lives is a worthy goal as we search for the right solutions. Let’s resolve to do better at this moment.
