Open Range Selects Alvarion for Rural Utilities Service Funded Deployment

Alvarion has reportedly been selected by Open Range Communications for the nation’s largest Rural Utilities Service funded deployment that will help Open Range offer state-of-the-art 4G services across rural America.

Open Range Communications is a broadband wireless provider using WiMAX (News - Alert) technology to deliver wireless broadband to un-served and underserved American communities. Alvarion is a provider of WiMAX and wireless broadband solutions.

Open Range said that it is filling the broadband Internet void in hundreds of communities with affordable, installation-free, portable 4G wireless services and this US$100 million multi-year contract with Alvarion (News - Alert) will span 17 states, 546 rural communities, and reach up to 6 million people. Under the contract Alvarion will deploy radio access equipment, customer devices and systems integration for Open Range's broadband wireless network. The 546 planned communities will have the tools needed to compete in today’s global marketplace.

Open Range said that its wireless communications are not aimed at providing customers just a hyper-connected internet lifestyle, but also new economic opportunities that were previously unavailable due to lack of infrastructure.

Tzvika Friedman (News - Alert), president and CEO of Alvarion, said that the company is pleased to partner with Open Range to make history building 4G broadband infrastructure in a large footprint. The effort will provide personalized broadband services to consumers in un-served and underserved parts of the country. Open Range’s goal of connecting rural America will help stimulate the growth of local communities.

Friedman added that with the firm’s full portfolio of end-to-end, turnkey WiMAX solutions and extensive network deployment experience, it is helping operators around the globe deliver affordable broadband services to subscribers wherever they may reside.

The new Open Range 4G network, based on Alvarion's WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) Certified 802.16e BreezeMAX solution, will be built with an all-IP architecture leveraging the latest 4G technology. This solution will give millions of rural Americans the ability to enjoy wireless broadband services across the communities where they live and work.

Open Range said that its portable wireless broadband internet is flexible, affordable, easy to setup and use. The company felt that the un-served and the underserved rural communities of America deserved an innovative partner with experience in delivering a wide array of simple, high quality, cost effective, robust solutions that are scalable and sustainable. Alvarion's passion and heritage in deploying wireless broadband globally with its expanded advanced capabilities make them an ideal partner for Open Range.

Alvarion had entered into an agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks and Black Dot Wireless (News - Alert) was awarded a contract for wireless site development services from Open Range Communications.
