Actiontec's Modems and Routers ENERGY STAR Approved
By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor
Actiontec Electronics, a broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions provider, has announced that 95 percent of its modems and routers shipped in Q2 included an ENERGY STAR approved power supply.
ENERGY STAR (News - Alert), a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy, encompasses more than 60 product categories, including external power adapters.
According to EPA statistics, there are as many as 1.5 billion small electronic devices with external power adapters in the U.S. and they account for approximately 11 percent of the national electric bill.
An ENERGY STAR rating signifies that Actiontec power adapters use at least 30 percent less energy than modems with conventional power adapters.
Officials at Actiontec say that they are committed to protect the environment through energy efficient products and other green-friendly practices. Its ENERGY STAR products include both Wireless N VDSL Modem Routers, the MI424WR, the next generation wireless broadband router; the M1000, modular DSL modem/router, the GT704WGB Wireless DSL Gateway (News - Alert) and the GT701D USB/Ethernet DSL Modem.
According to Brian Henrichs, Actiontec vice president of business development, opting for energy efficient household products allows families to save about a third on their energy bill. Henrichs also said that the company is fully committed to helping families in selecting 'Green' offerings by improving the energy efficiency of their product portfolio.
Actiontec is taking other strides to reduce its environmental impact and is using recycled materials in its packaging, as well as focusing on smaller-sized devices, which require fewer materials, less packaging and less waste produced throughout the supply chain.
