Tata Communications Recognized by Gartner for Managed Security Services

Tata Communications, a subsidiary of Tata Group, announced it has been positioned by industry analyst firm Gartner (News - Alert) in the Challengers quadrant of its “Magic Quadrant for Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) in North America” report.
Gartner Magic Quadrant evaluates MSSPs according to their ability to execute - including overall viability, product capabilities, quality, feature sets, skills, market responsiveness and track record - as well as the completeness of vision, which includes innovation and product strategy among other criteria, officials said.
According to Gartner, enterprises are engaging managed security service providers to meet security monitoring and device management requirements for several reasons. Some organizations opt for managed security services because they find it difficult to increase resources or expertise. Others may depend on them because of the compliance requirements for monitoring and reviewing security and user-related activities.
The growing trend toward providing local Internet connections to branch offices, rather than through a central corporate gateway, and the increasing use of mobile workforce and consumer-grade technology to access corporate resources have also contributed for the growth of MSSPs.
“In just one year, we have launched and scaled our managed security services business, and are now focused on meeting the highest expectations that our customers have from us, and validating our customers' choice of Tata Communications (News - Alert) as their choice for managed security services for their sites in developed and emerging markets worldwide,” said John Landau, senior vice president of Global Managed Services for Tata Communications, in a statement.
Landau stated that their placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Managed Security Services reflects the trust their customers have placed in the company and its ability to deliver world-class security services.
Tata Communications helps organizations reduce costs by outsourcing security services such as monitoring and managing their security infrastructure. These services provide companies with proactive detection and evaluation of information security threats, accompanied by swift incident response and remediation actions, officials said.
Tata Communications’ product range includes managed and monitored firewalls and unified threat management (UTM) systems, intrusion detection and prevention systems, distributed denial of service (DDoS) detection and mitigation, vulnerability management, email security and filtering, and penetration testing.
Gartner estimates that the revenue generated by MSSPs in North America grew by 15 percent in 2008 from $570 million in 2007. The number of firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention (IDP) devices under monitoring/management grew by 20 percent.
Gartner estimates that in 2008, 60 percent of Fortune 500 enterprises had engaged in some level of use of an MSSP, representing about 25 percent of enterprise firewalls under remote monitoring or management.
