OSS Telecom to Boost Network Capacity with Acme Packet's SBCs

OSS Telecom reportedly has selected Acme Packet’s Net-Net 4250 session border controller (pictured below) to expand the capacity and reach of its national network, maximize quality-of-service and reduce costs.

Officials at OSS Telecom said theirs is an international and long distance carrier with points of presence in Russia, CIS and Western Europe, offering communication services by combining technologies in VoIP with traditional communication services. The company handles more than 9 million minutes per month and expects this number to triple in 2009 as its customer demand increases.

Acme Packet (News - Alert) officials said that OSS Telecom currently has deployed it’s Net-Net 4250 in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg and Vladivostok, and now plans to add SBCs in Saratov, Novosibirsk and Rostov-on-Don to allow IP interconnection with other national service providers.

Officials said that OSS Telecom decision to choose Net-Net 4250 was based on operational savings and several important features, including the company’s proven high-availability configuration with complete check-pointing of signaling, media and configuration state for non-stop SBC operation, which was critical in OSS Telecom’s decision to replace their existing router-based SBC.

According to officials at Acme Packet, the Net-SAFE security architecture also provides missing protection against outages caused by DoS/DDoS attacks and service overloads. Programmable header manipulation for both SIP and H.323 signaling messages enable IP network interconnects with almost any provider, maximizing service reach and revenue.

The Net-Net 4250’s load balancing capabilities adds scalability and redundancy to OSS Telecom’s softswitches. Acme Packet also helped reduce OSS Telecom’s operating costs by reducing training, support and troubleshooting time.

“Acme Packet’s outstanding product and professional services have increased our ability to provide reliable and scalable services to our customers across Russia,” said Roman Kurakin, technical director for OSS Telecom.

Kurakin said that by replacing a router-based SBC with Acme Packet’s Net-Net 4250 the company has been able to decrease service interruption and simplified its operations – two important pre-requisites to taking the services to the next level.

“Our Net-Net 4250 SBCs meet OSS Telecom’s requirement for a simple, feature-rich and proven SBC solution for expanding its wholesale voice service network,” said Seamus Hourihan (News - Alert), vice president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet.

Hourihan said that this same platform will also enable them to quickly and confidently expand their services beyond voice to interactive video.

Acme Packet, a major player in session border control solutions, enables the delivery of trusted, first-class interactive communications – voice, video and multimedia sessions – and data services across IP network borders.
