IBM and RIM Release Lotus Software, Developer Tools for the BlackBerry Platform

IBM and Research In Motion (RIM) have released a Lotus collaboration software and developer tools on the BlackBerry (News - Alert) platform. This feature will help customers to stay connected while on the move.
The IBM (News - Alert) Lotus collaboration portfolio, consisting of IBM Lotus Domino, IBM Lotus Sametime, IBM Lotus Connections, IBM Lotus Quickr, and IBM Lotus Symphony, delivers a rich communications, collaboration and messaging experience to the office worker.
When combined with the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution these collaboration tools can be extended to mobile professionals for messaging and collaboration experience.
According to IBM’s institute for Business Value, one billion mobile Web users are expected by 2011.
The IBM Lotus Software Suite on BlackBerry Smartphones provide seamless desktop to mobile experience; intuitive, familiar navigation and features backed by BlackBerry technology.
The BlackBerry clients for IBM Lotus software benefit from increased productivity and access to information while away from the office, better management of time and projects, improved decision-making and customer satisfaction through access to the timeliest information.
"The new Lotus collaboration features and developer tools on the BlackBerry platform will deliver productivity beyond the office extending IBM software and services so that individuals can access all of the resources they need to keep their business moving, anytime, anywhere," stated Bob Picciano, general manager, IBM Lotus Software.
According to Jim Balsillie, co-CEO, Research In Motion,"Team collaboration shouldn't stall when employees are on the road or away from their desks."
"RIM and IBM are strengthening the BlackBerry platform for Lotus with a portfolio of mobile office productivity and collaboration capabilities that will make BlackBerry smartphones even more effective in mobilizing businesses around the globe" said Balsillie.
IBM and RIM will also preview BlackBerry platform support for IBM Lotus Domino Designer and XPages. The BlackBerry Java Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) for Eclipse plugs into IBM Lotus Domino Designer, for easy development of new software applications for BlackBerry smartphones. BlackBerry platform support for XPages allows developers to write for Web and secure use on BlackBerry smartphones.
IBM has been providing mobile software and services and supporting the BlackBerry platform. IBM Global Technology Services has been managing BlackBerry Enterprise Servers for its outsourcing customers.
