Clearwire Selects Smith Micro to Deliver Connection Management Software

Clearwire Corp. has said that it selected Smith Micro Software to deliver connection management software to their mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) customers.

 

Smith Micro is a developer and marketer of mobility solutions and services for the wireless market. The company’s solutions enable users to connect, share, distribute and manage information over wireless and wired networks.

 

The company designed a connection manager, which allows customers to connect to the Clear mobile WiMAX service. In addition to their 4G wireless service, Smith Micro said that they have customized the connection manager according to the requirements of Clear’s mobile WiMAX. Along with a “highly refined” user interface feature, the application also supports most of the major WiMAX devices of the industry.

Scott Richardson, Chief Strategy Officer at Clearwire said the company turned to Smith Micro to develop an “easy-to-use” connection that would provide customers with seamless access to the new Clear mobile WiMAX network.

 

Last year in May, Clearwire announced its plans to build the WiMAX network after Sprint Nextel (News - Alert) and the company agreed to combine their WiMAX businesses to create a wireless communication venture. The planned WiMAX network is expected to reach around 140 million people by the end of 2010.

 

“Clearwire is focused on delivering a simple value proposition for customers of our new ‘Clear’ mobile Internet services to be launched in Portland, Oregon in early 2009,” said Richardson.
