Newtec's Focus on Satellite Equipment Manufacturing Carves out Ideal Niche
In the satellite industry, some companies wear many different hats. Some provide managed services. Others manufacture equipment. Some launch and maintain their own satellites. And some companies are broad enough to cover all of these areas at the same time. But Belgium-based Newtec (News - Alert) has found that, by specializing in one area, it can ensure the utmost quality and carve out an ideal niche for itself.
The 27-year old company, with over 300 employees and offices in Europe, North and South America, is a satellite equipment manufacturer. They produce modems for video/IP and consumer Internet uses and work with several different space agencies. By focusing on manufacturing equipment that is used in verticals such as broadcast, the company has seen success, remarking that over two billion people watch television that is somehow routed through Newtec equipment.
The company also focuses on IP trunking and government and defense verticals.
Recently, Newtec has had a number of newsworthy announcements. Earlier this month, the company worked together with SES (News - Alert) to complete a Ka-band test. Newtec is also working with several defense organizations in Europe, and has come to an agreement with INSAT to use Newtec equipment for its Ka band Internet access solution.
On area that Newtec is focusing on right now is in Africa, where its IP Easy Access product, a pre-programmed, self-installable satellite modem can be set up in less than 12 minutes. The company is working with YAHSAT to set up high speed Ka band IP trunking in the Middle East and Africa.
Newtec recently demonstrated 372 MBPS throughput on a 72 MHz transponder.
