Soapstone Networks Intros 'Service Ready' Solution for Multi-vendor Ethernet Deployments
By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Soapstone Networks (News - Alert) is showcasing its Provider Network Controller (PNC) solution, its multi-vendor resource and service control plane software framework, at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas this week. This product underscores the company’s commitment to standards-based integration between operations support systems (OSS) and network equipment.
Demonstrations at the show will show how the PNC (News - Alert) framework is “service ready” for large, multi-vendor carrier Ethernet deployments.
In the demonstration, TMF standards implementing a NGOSS contract will be used to showcase Amdocs (News - Alert) Cramer OSS taking apart a service into its component resources and establishing quality criteria for resources. The complete description will also be passed on to the PNC with this method.
The Soapstone PNC identifies the suitable network resources, provisions the network resources to implement the contract, and also maintains them in real time with the help of the NGOSS contract from Amdocs Cramer. This ensures compliance of both availability and performance. The PNC selects alternative resources to restore the service if and when there is a failure. The Carrier Ethernet network is comprised of ANDA Networks, Telco Systems (News - Alert), Cisco, Extreme Networks, Hammerhead, and Nortel switches.
Based on product as well as the ease of use for doing business with the service provider, service providers need to deliver a superior quality of experience to their customers. They need a precise control over services which is achieved by reducing the variability in the customer experience. This requires the implementation of continuous quality improvement for products and touch to the customer.
“We are very pleased to drive this demonstration because it shows the service provider community how they can provide a quality experience to their customers both in terms of the product quality as well as interaction with their customers," said Esmeralda Swartz, SVP Marketing and Business Development at Soapstone Networks. "We believe that delivering pre-integrated components from the OSS to network equipment is key to tapping the potential for NGN services.”
