NEC (News - Alert) Corporation of America, a company that offers network, IT and identity management solutions, today announced a new awards program dedicated to the nation’s telecommunications community.

 

The new category, the “Empowered by Telecommunications” award, is designed for outstanding achievements obtained by telecommunications operators and service providers that are United States Telecom Association carrier members, NEC officials say.

 

NEC officials say they’ll recognize extraordinary network deployments and chief successes from industry peers at the USTelecom (News - Alert) Membership Reception at NXTcomm 2009, an annual event delivering the entire ecosystem of network-enabled voice, video, and data. There are three award categories, recognizing achievements in business-value, technical-achievement and overall-market success, company officials say.

 

Walter B (News - Alert). McCormick Jr., president and chief executive officer of USTelecom, said that now is an exciting time for the U.S. telecommunications industry as new technologies and business opportunities are rapidly changing the communications environment. McCormick said it’s important to recognize industry leaders for their innovative visions and business successes with the changing scenarios. He said that NEC’s awards are a “great” way to laud executives who are “true industry visionaries.”

 

Yoshichika Iida, senior vice president of the NEC Corporation of America, said that telecommunications carriers are proactively taking charge of opportunities afforded to them to best prepare for future broadband growth, and working with USTelecom and its members will allow the industry to seek new innovative ways to achieve excellence in customer service and network implementations.

 

NEC officials say they’ll make a $10,000donation on behalf of the award winners, to an approved educational institution of the award winners’ choice, within their respective service areas.
