Amino Debuts Digital HD IPTV Set Top Box at NXTcomm08
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributing Editor
At the NXTcomm08 conference in Las Vegas this week, Amino introduced what it claims is the IPTV market’s completely digital high definition IPTV (News - Alert) set top box, the AmiNET130M. Amino claims the new device can reduce capital costs and simplify the installation of HD IPTV services.
Amino Communications (News - Alert) supplies the AmiNET series of set-top boxes (STBs). The AmiNET range materially reduces service operators’ capital expenditure, while offering the full range of specification required; MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding standards, standard and high definition TV, personal video recording and home networking.
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA (News - Alert)) and the U.S. Telecom Association (U.S.Telecom) produce NXTcomm, the one event delivering the entire ecosystem of network-enabled voice, video, and data.
The AmiNET130M is cheaper and simpler to install than other HD IPTV STBs using hdmi as the only connection option for the TV. For service providers whose primary propositions are HD, the AmiNET130M will lower the cost of connecting a customer.
Customers are gradually moving their choice of TV from ordinary to HDTV and they would obviously want services fit for their sets. The AmiNET130M retains all of the other benefits of it’s sister product, the AmiNET130 and it can deliver end-to-end digital HD TV as a multicast or on-demand multi-room video experience. By having included the support of mpeg-4 video format it can enable services to be provided to customers at longer distances and to those having lower bandwidth connections.
In addition, the AmiNET130M is the industry’s smallest all digital, HD MPEG-4 STB, measuring just 4.48 inches wide and 1.37 inches high. Based on the Amino design, the AmiNET130M has a sleek and distinctive black extruded case.
“This is another great example of Amino shaping IPTV with an innovative solution that recognizes the dynamics of this fast evolving industry,” said Andrew Burke, CEO of Amino Communications.
Burke continued: “The AmiNET130M is a valuable addition to the IPTV market,” said Rory Betteridge, HD Product Manager. “The box specifically addresses the growing segment of the market focused on HD services and flat screen TVs. It’s a less expensive option which offers the same, unparalleled advantages as the AmiNET130 for cutting edge, high quality HD IPTV services.”
“NXTcomm (News - Alert) is the perfect venue for us to launch the AmiNET130M to our target audience, the IPTV service providers,” added Rick Sailor, vice president of sales for the company’s Americas division. “The event draws industry leaders from around the world who are dedicated to the advancement of converged communications, and Amino is eager to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the development of enhanced IPTV STBs that connect the consumer to quality HD viewing experiences.”
The AmiNET130M will be demonstrated at the Amino NXTcomm08 booth (#SL1026)
