BindView Reduces Help Desk Support Costs With New Features And Integration Of Remote Control Module

BindView Development Corporation, a leading supplier of security assessment and systems management software, announced an update to the BindView EMS NETinventory module, as well as a new remote control module, NETrc.

The integration of NETrc with NETinventory provides users with the ability to take control over remote nodes right from within the familiar inventory user interface. Help Desk personnel can significantly reduce the time it takes to resolve customer issues by viewing inventory details and remotely controlling an end user desktop without switching from one application to another.

BindView's integration of NETrc with NETinventory also allows administrators to automatically distribute the NETrc client software at login or any time audits are performed. Closely integrating the inventory with remote control puts significant power into the hands of the Help Desk personnel. The combination of these tools, greatly improves Help Desk efficiency and reduces the total cost of ownership for IT resources.

The NETinventory module has also received several updates to help further reduce Total Cost of Ownership. Improvements such as the database 'rollup' can save time by significantly improving reporting time. Rollup provides the ability to merge, on a scheduled basis, virtually all distributed inventory data into a single database. With 'Rollup', administrators have the unique choice of generating reports off a local copy (for speed) or the live, distributed data for freshness. Copies of the rollup database can also be used for off-line reporting on a workstation or laptop.

Version 6 of NETinventory also includes BindView's new, patent-pending AccutectTM node identification technology. NETinventory's superior node identification protects the integrity of your inventory data by preventing duplicate asset entry as well as accurately tracking mobile and dual boot machines. Accurate tracking of nodes is especially critical for those companies using the Y2K testing and assessment capabilities in NETinventory.

NETinventory has also been enhanced to support gathering DMI information such
as OEM serial number and BIOS revision level without requiring the DMI service layer to be running. "As long as the machine is DMI compliant NETinventory will pick up this information," said Eric Pulaski, chief executive officer and president of BindView Development. "This addition is in response to our many customers who said they did not want to install and load the DMI service layer on every desktop in order to get this critical information."

The EMS Console, and NETinventory version 6.0 are available immediately. The price in the U.S. is $1,995 per EMS Console, $24.95 per node for NETinventory and $17.95 per node for NETrc.
