Cavium Networks and Partners Steal the Show at Interop with a Wide Range of Products

Cavium Networks, a provider of integrated semiconductor products for networking, communications, wireless, storage, video and security applications, along with six of its ecosystem partners demonstrated multiple reference designs using the OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processors at the Interop (News - Alert) 2009, Las Vegas.

Products highlighted at the show are the OCTEON family of Multicore MIPS64 processors with 1 to 32 cores, the ECONA ARM family of connected home and office processors, the PureVu family of H.264 Video processors, the NITROX family of security processors and the recently announced 10G Intelligent Network Adaptors, officials said.

Cavium’s processors enable OEMs and ODMs to develop various devices including routers, switches, application delivery switches, wireless local area network (WLAN) gateways, broadband home routers, intelligent network adaptors, 3G, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax), Long-Term Evolution (LTE) wireless base stations and gateways, video conferencing systems and networked high-definition display systems.

These processors are supported by more than 100 partner companies that provide the operating system, software applications, middleware, advanced multi-core development tools and hardware in ready-to-use form factors such as broadband gateways, 1U appliances, Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), AMC and custom systems.

Among the partner companies that demonstrated OCTEON-based products include Advantech, D2 Technologies, GE Fanuc, Mentor Graphics, NetLogic Microsystems (News - Alert), and QNX.

Advantech displayed a groundbreaking 4U rack-mount network appliance scalable from 12 to 96 cores based on the Cavium Networks (News - Alert) OCTEON Plus network services processor. An advanced sample of the system, named the NCP-7560, demonstrated at the show offered about 80 Gbps of data throughput over six 10 GigE and sixteen GigE ports.

D2 Technologies (News - Alert) displayed a fully integrated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and multi-media communications software solution running on Cavium's OCTEON and ECONA based processors.

GE Fanuc offered multiple OCTEON Plus based products including the recently introduced 10Gbit Ethernet PCI-Express WANic 56511 Packet Processor, and dual OCTEON Plus AdvancedTCA Packet Processor blade with RTM.

NetLogic Microsystems has used Cavium's OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 processors along with its own Knowledge Based Processors to design a 20Gbps joint reference design.

Mentor Graphics (News - Alert) demonstrated its Majic multicore development tools while QNX showcased a high-performance operating system showing linear performance scaling with increasing number of cores.
