Cavium Networks and Partners Demo Integrated Networks Solutions at Interop
By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor
Cavium Networks (News - Alert), a provider of integrated semiconductor products, is hosting live demos of its OCTEON solutions at the Interop show this week in Las Vegas.
At its booth, the company is demonstrating how its OCTEON solutions can be used with networking equipment from other vendors, including A10 Networks, Alpha Networks, Asustek, Emerson, H3C, Lanner, Netgear (News - Alert), Packeteer, Portwell, Sercomm, Silver-Peak and SonicWall.
OCTEON is a complete suite of multi-core processors, designed with scalability, performance and low power usage in mind. The product family includes networking applications ranging from 100Mbps to full-duplex 10Gbps. These processors offer enhanced throughput and programmability for the Layer 2 through Layer 7 processing requirements of intelligent networks.
All the products of OCTEON family are software compatible and are supported by industry-standard software tool chains and operating systems. The processors are developed for use with networking equipment such as routers, switches, unified threat management (UTM) appliances, content-aware switches, application-aware gateways, triple-play gateways, WLAN
and 3G/4G access and aggregation devices, storage arrays, storage networking equipment, servers, and intelligent network interface cards (NICs).

One of Cavium’s demonstrations uses an OCTEON dual-core based reference design for a setup that delivers VoIP
integrated into a broadband/home triple play gateway with video MPEG playback.

The other demonstration is of a virtual private network (VPN
) solution based on unified Internet protocol security (IPsec) and secure socket layer (SSL), incorporating WiFi (News - Alert) 802.11n. This demo incorporates TeamF1’s secure gateway solution, a turnkey package that combines field-proven, standard components with an array of customizable options to provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) with increased product flexibility.

ODM partners of Cavium will demonstrate a wide range of custom, flexible motherboards, ATCA boards and software solutions for networking OEMs and server applications within Cavium's booth.
Cavium is offering OCTEON processors in multiple versions to address market specific requirements, including network services processors, storage services processors, secure communication processors and communication processors.
