ExtraHop Networks Unveils Application Performance Monitoring for Healthcare IT Applications

ExtraHop Networks (News - Alert), a Seattle-based company specializing in network-based application performance monitoring (APM) solutions, has extended its support for critical healthcare IT initiatives.

Healthcare organizations are revolutionizing patient care with technologies such as electronic health records, mobile applications, and cloud-based knowledge-sharing systems, and also complying with privacy regulations including HIPAA that are stricter than ever. Healthcare IT teams need to keep these new complex systems running at peak performance, as well as legacy applications for laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, and order entry that cannot be replaced easily.

For instance, by monitoring how a patient's mobile application interacts with back-end IT systems over the network, the ExtraHop system can help healthcare IT teams to detect and quickly address emerging performance problems before they affect patients. The ExtraHop system correlates performance behaviors across the network, web, database, and storage tiers of the application so that healthcare IT teams can pinpoint the root cause of problems quickly.

"There are very few scenarios where anything less than peak application performance has a higher cost," Jesse Rothstein (News - Alert), chief executive officer and co-founder at ExtraHop Networks said in a press release.

"Mobile heart monitors, drug-interaction-screening applications, electronic health records--these are all systems that simply have to work, and work well, or else patient care really suffers. While healthcare application performance demands are certainly unique, our work in industries such as financial services and travel, where every application transaction is critical, proves that our network-based approach to APM (News - Alert) exceeds the most demanding enterprise requirements for scalability and dynamic adaptability," Rothstein added.

At the HIMSS12 Annual Conference, the company will be exhibiting its network-based application performance management solution that supports critical initiatives including mobile applications, electronic health records (EHR), and policy compliance. The system is engineered from the ground up to meet the performance monitoring needs of IT Operations teams. Bridging the communication between the application support and network teams, ExtraHop's APM solution makes it ideal for an industry that is experiencing heavy pressure to modernize systems while also maintaining high standards for compliance, patient care, and employee productivity.

ExtraHop clarified that its system's agentless, network-based approach to APM are capable of enabling IT teams to maintain performance of critical applications. By passively monitoring transactions passing over the network in real time instead of using invasive software agents that must be configured, tested, installed, and maintained, healthcare IT organizations can optimize the performance of applications such as EHRs and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (News - Alert), and also support ongoing and future initiatives.

Above all, the system typically deploys in just 15 minutes with zero configuration and includes powerful auto-discovery and auto-classification capabilities.

ExtraHop recently announced its plans to grow rapidly in Europe, Middle East and Africa through their channel partner program.
