BRIT to Display Its CLoud-Based Image-Sharing System at HIMSS

BRIT Systems, Inc. will demonstrate its RoentgenWorks DICOM Cloud, “a free personal, DICOM Cloud Server with an HTML5 image viewer for the medical imaging industry,” allowing users to upload, view and share medical studies and reports any time anywhere, at HIMSS in Las Vegas this week, according to a company press release.

The cloud will also manage email invitations to colleagues and patients for viewing images “using BRIT's WebWorks browser-based viewer or the DoctorWorks iPad application, which is available for purchase from Apple's (News - Alert) App Store,” according to the press release.

Medical images available to all, not just those at your hospital, can improve patient outcomes, according to a study released today at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference.

Houston-based Memorial Hermann Healthcare System is already using a similar medical imaging exchange in the cloud to make diagnostic high-quality images available at any time throughout the health system, according to a story by Neil Versel. In June, the system was set up using the hospital’s gateway to connect the picture archiving and communications systems at all 11 hospitals and 28 imaging centers in Texas' largest integrated delivery network, including the level 1 trauma center at Texas Medical Center, distributing and managing medical images from physicians and other referring hospitals in southeast Texas.

Describing RoentgenWorks DICOM Cloud as “a secure, pure-browser platform for uploading medical imaging studies and reports,” the press release reports that there is no need to download, install and involve IT staff with the cloud. “With an account, the facility or clinician becomes the system manager -- add a facility logo, determine how and when to delete studies, manage users and keep patients connected to their medical imaging results,” the press release explains.

"RoentgenWorks DICOM Cloud facilitates the sharing of medical imaging information and helps departments circumvent the information silos that exist within healthcare," says Shelly Fisher, president of BRIT Systems, in the press release. "For sites with low imaging volumes, Roentgen DICOM Cloud can be their own image distribution to the outside world, replacing the CDs they provide to patients. It also demonstrates the speed of cloud-based image distribution. Sites can easily add additional storage as needed for a small additional fee, as well as add additional utilities that work with the Roentgen Cloud, including a VNA, critical results reporting, dictation and peer review."
