TeledocConnect: An Innovative Solution to the Doctor's Visit

An issue for many patients is the lack of immediate accessibility granted to them by their primary care physicians, and not because their doctors are aloof, but for a number of factors complicating round-the-clock healthcare, such as the time it takes to travel to the practice, the time spent in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, the absence of their doctor from the office because he or she is with another patient or for some other reason, conflicts of schedule between available appointment times and personal calendars, etc.

Not having immediate access to one’s primary healthcare provider can potentially place patients in a stressful situation where he or she must face dilemmas such as these: I have ambiguous symptoms, and I don’t know how serious they are… I could just wait for my fever to go down, but I was told to contact my physician if this symptom occurs… I can’t reach my doctor. I can’t wait until Monday for an appointment… I do not want to pay the astronomical fees I could accumulate with the ambulance ride and visit to the E.R... I could go to the urgent treatment facility, but that’s not covered by my insurance… WebMD doesn’t seem to have the solution…

But because we live in an age where science and technology offer solutions to problems in virtually every industry, it should come as no surprise that communication in the medical field is a project that has undergone consideration for improvement. And today, there is already a solution available, and it is called TeledocConnect.

Jason Gorevic, the CEO behind TeledocConnect states, “As wait times to see a physician increase, patients are turning to expensive alternatives such as the emergency room, but TeladocConnect provides a solution that decreases wait times and costs for the patient, physician and health plans. It helps physicians deliver 24/7 quality care, and adds a level of flexibility and accessibility to healthcare that would otherwise require a significant capital investment.”

Teledoc, the company behind TeledocConnect, claims to be the only tele-healthcare provider in the U.S. This week they will launch their innovative communication system at a medical convention in Las Vegas, HIMSS12, and for some patients, this could not come at a better time. Gorevic explains,

“Since its inception, Teladoc has provided patients with access to U.S.-based, board-certified physicians, 24/7 via telephone or secure online video to resolve many medical conditions when the individual’s primary care physician is not available. TeladocConnect wraps around a physician’s practice, providing patients with around-the-clock care and allowing physicians to offer a higher level of personal service at a time when demand is overwhelming resources. This new offering helps to solve some of the greatest challenges healthcare faces today, including access, patient volume and reimbursement challenges.”
