4Home, Verizon to Demo 4G Home Control Services at CES

4Home and Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless will be demonstrating collaboratively-developed 4G home control services at 2010 CES (News - Alert) this week.

Verizon Wireless sources said that it’s 4G Long-Term Evolution, or “LTE,” network will be commercially launched this year. 4Home has developed carrier-grade software platform for connected home services as a category creator. These services will be made available over Verizon’s 4G LTE (News - Alert) network.

Jeff Crews, senior vice president, service provider rollouts at 4Home, said that the company is pleased to be working with Verizon Wireless to develop compelling new consumer applications.

“Home control services have typically been considered value-added services running over a traditional high-speed internet connection,” Crews said.

Additionally, Verizon’s continued leadership leveraging the higher bandwidths of 4G technologies opens up an entirely new market for 4Home’s platform and applications.

“Verizon Wireless will provide the infrastructure and innovation in wireless connectivity and 4Home is providing the expertise and platform in home control services,” Crews added.

Home control services are broadband-enabled services including energy management, home security and monitoring, home health, and media management. The 4G LTE mobile broadband network will integrate these services seamlessly into the mobile experience. This lets consumers manage their media, energy usage, home security and health even while traveling.

“We think there is a significant opportunity for service providers to enhance their offerings with value-added services such as remote home control and monitoring,” said Bill Ablondi, director of home systems research at Parks Associates (News - Alert).

There is a growing demand for mobile and web-based home monitoring applications. Energy management is a chief requirement for consumers as was revealed in a recent consumer survey. About 80 percent of consumers are interested in cutting energy costs; two-thirds are interested in energy monitors and are willing to pay for them; and over 50% of these people prefer an online application, Ablondi added.

Verizon and 4Home are developing home control services collaboratively leveraging the benefits of the 4G LTE network which will be launched by Verizon in 25 to 30 markets this year.

Verizon Wireless’ LTE Innovations Center proposes to showcase 4Home’s home control applications and platform software, running on the SheevaPlug plug computer reference design at the Consumer Electronics Show.
