Cisco and French Cable Operator Numericable to Collaborate Over Development of Multi-Screen Video Experiences


Cisco (News - Alert), a networking company providing solutions which transform how people connect, communicate and collaborate, has announced an alliance with Numéricable, a French cable operator, over the development of advanced video experiences based on the Cisco Videoscape platform for customers in France. The Videoscape TV platform enables service providers to deliver digital TV and online video content along with social media and communications applications to customers.




Numéricable will leverage the Cisco Videoscape platform to provide its customers with extensive content to a device of their choice either at home or outside it without the need for complex and costly infrastructure. Consumers will also be able to share or show and engage with their content through video by leveraging the social networking and communications applications of Videoscape

Cisco in its announcement also said that Numéricable has successfully implemented its (3G60) Broadband Processing Engine which has been designed as a routing and cable modem solution which makes it possible for operators to deliver high-speed broadband essential for delivering IP based services over their existing cable infrastructure in the future. Numéricable has already tested world record-breaking performance over its Cable DOCSIS 3.0 network and registered speeds of up to 4 Gigabits (Gbps) per second.

Numéricable will use the Videoscape TV service delivery platform from Cisco for delivery of its multi-screen TV services. This will enable service providers to offer their customers with high quality video content to all kinds of IP-enabled device. The company will be deploying the Cisco Content Delivery System (CDS), the Cisco Media Processor (News - Alert) and Transcode Manager, as well as Unified Computing System (UCS), Nexus and Universal Broadband Router.

Cisco CDS offers advanced caching and adapting content capability in addition to providing an extensive range of personalized services from a variety of content sources to multiple devices across any location and at anytime. The Media Processor and Transcode Manager from Cisco allow multi-format advanced adaptive bit rate encoding and transcoding which customizes media for deliver in real-time or for on-demand delivery over any screen. Video quality of the content is adjusted as per the bandwidth currently available.

In other news, at last year’s, Cisco’s Videoscape was the talk of the show and was described as a key part of the networking giant’s video strategy. This year, that remains the same, except for a new announcement that could redefine the company in years to come.
