D-Link Integrates Atheros Hy-Fi Technology in Home Networking Solutions

D-Link announced that it is showcasing its whole-home wireless connectivity portfolio at CES (News - Alert) 2011. The portfolio features hybrid networking solutions for extending wired and wireless networks in challenging situations, by leveraging the existing electrical wiring in the home.

Atheros’ Hy-Fi technology is integrated into a hybrid WiFi (News - Alert)/PowerLine Router which makes it easy for consumers to overcome coverage and performance problems.

According to D-Link sources, its Hybrid Wireless-N PowerLine Router (DHP-1320) incorporates Atheros (News - Alert) Hy-Fi technology to expand coverage and enhance performance as more media applications and HD content are reaching home networks.

AJ Wang, chief technology officer of D-Link (News - Alert) North America, said in a press release, “By working with Atheros on hybrid networking solutions, we enhance the performance of D-Link devices and deliver features that solve consumers’ real-world issues.”

Wang added, “By offering consumers the choice of connectivity in a single device, it is easier than ever to set up a powerful home network capable of delivering uninterrupted media, such as gaming, streaming Internet video and music.”

Atheros sources added that its new family of hybrid home networking solutions synergizes popular consumer networking technologies like WiFi, HomePlug (News - Alert) AV PowerLine and Ethernet. This combination will boost network bandwidth besides facilitating the set up and enhancing coverage in every home environment.

D-Link consumers are expected to obtain a well-designed network that ensures whole-home coverage. Atheros’ Hy-Fi reference designs also feature software enhancements that add “behind-the-scenes” intelligence to simplify network set up and management for mainstream consumers.

Also, the design unifies wired and wireless networks with a single user interface besides enabling push-button pairing and security between D-Link routers and all Atheros-based adapters on the network, added D-Link officials.

Dan Rabinovitsj, senior vice president and general manager of Atheros’ Networking Business Unit, commented, “Consumers expect their networks to provide robust delivery of media and data services anywhere in their home.”

He added that D-Link is unveiling home networking products that help achieve that. D-Link’s hybrid router brings together optimized wired and wireless technologies thereby simplifying the connected lifestyle by providing a home network that adapts to the users.

D-Link’s new PowerLine AV Combo Router (DHP-1320), merges powerline 200Mbps technology with Wireless N and Ethernet ports giving customers three connectivity options. This helps reach all the devices in the home providing optimal speed and bandwidth and eliminating the need for messy cables and dead spots.
