Time Warner Cable to Sponsor Four Congressional Hispanic Caucus Interns
By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer
Time Warner (News - Alert) cable is one of the top cable companies in the world, but that doesn’t mean the corporation only looks at its bottom line when it makes financial decisions.
Time Warner will sponsor four separate internships inside the Congressional Hispanic Conference. The company is well known for its various technological breakthroughs and the endeavors it funds, but there is usually less public emphasis on some of its other endeavors.
Time Warner’s funding of its summer internship program is an attempt to get young people more engaged in the four basic fields that Time Warner is most concerned with in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics.)
The company feels there needs to be more of an American focus on those particular fields in order to compete on the global scale.
"We believe it is especially important to encourage the leaders of tomorrow,” said Fernando Laguarda, Time Warner Cable’s vice president of External Affairs and Policy Counselor. “We are excited about the opportunities we can make available through this partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to encourage Latino leaders from around the country to pursue their interests in STEM and public policy.”
The four interns will be held responsible for conducting various research projects, as well as monitoring day-to-day activities and helping out in a variety of different way with whatever office to which they are officially assigned.
The interns are Ismael Gomez from Appalachian State, Vanessa Lopez of Carnegie Mellon University, Esther Urena of Carnegie Mellon University and Jonathan Villanueva who is studying at UCSB.
Those applying for this particular internship must major in one of the STEM fields and have an interest in public policy.
