SBC Communications Inc. today announced it scored a five-year networking contract with Atlanta, GA-based Intec Telecom Systems PLC as the company prepares to integrate video applications and other VoIP-based services in the near future.
Intec provides billing, multi-service mediation, and real-time mobile service charging software. The company decided to contact SBC in order to deploy its PremierSERVSM Network-Based Virtual Private Network (NVPN)—which will integrate MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) technology, SBC PremierSERV Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), and SBC PremierSERV Data CPE Support Services for all Intec locations in the United States.
Additionally, the new agreement contracts NTT America—a provider of managed network services, systems integration, collocation, hosting and various IP solutions, to manage the Arcstar Global IP-VPN (MPLS) service to support Intec's global network across Canada, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Together, these services would help provide improved communications among Intec employees as well as help establish a platform to provide additional support for future video applications and VoIP capabilities.
"We were looking for a company that could provide us with a dependable, managed network solution in order to streamline our communications," said Jim Hammar, assistant global IT director for Intec. "Intec's familiarity with the strength of SBC companies' underlying operational support systems ( OSS) was a strong factor in our decision. SBC companies are able to meet our needs with a network that will help to enable video conferencing capabilities among our facilities worldwide."
This announcement follows SBC’s recent multibillionaire acquisition of AT&T Corporation causing 13,000 employees to lose their jobs. The acquisition is a result of the company’s current total reorganization of its telecom services.
