GigaBeam and Stealth Expand VoIP Services in NYC

BY JOHANNE TORRES

Herndon, VA-based GigaBeam Corporation announced today, that the company has established a strategic partnership with Stealth Communications that will enable both companies to install what they say is an ultra fast wireless fiber solution called WiFiber within the New York City area.

GigaBeam's WiFiber is said to provide communications access with the capacity of fiber but with significantly less latency than fiber to enhance Stealth's communications service offerings. Stealth is one of New York City's largest Internet gateways and offers Internet and Ethernet access, VoIP, and data services to service providers, financial institutions, enterprises and government agencies.

"GigaBeam's ultra high speed wireless fiber technology is an ideal solution enabling Stealth to provide a high speed connection between customer locations and Stealth network access points." Until now, Stealth has relied on traditional fiber optic cables to connect its customers and Stealth locations together. With GigaBeam's solution, Stealth customers will be able to bypass local infrastructure and other right-of-way obstacles that prevent quick and cost-effective high speed connections using traditional physical fiber. "The initial link highlights GigaBeam's significant advantages over traditional fiber for primary and redundant fiber speed connections," said Lou Slaughter, GigaBeam’s chairman and CEO.

GigaBeam has plans to install the first WiFiber GigE link for Stealth during this current quarter, providing high speed connectivity of one Gigabit-per-second across the Hudson River between a Stealth customer's data center in Jersey City, New Jersey and Stealth's Manhattan access point at 60 Hudson Street in New York.

Shrihari Pandit, CEO and founder of Stealth Communications said, "Using GigaBeam's WiFiber wireless fiber solution, we can now address the demands of a much broader market. Now, with a direct fiber-speed wireless WiFiber Ethernet circuit, our customers can connect to our unique portfolio of services, including Stealth's Financial Extranet and The Voice Peering Fabric. The GigaBeam-Stealth solution provides high performance, low cost access without the expense of running physical fiber, and allows bypass of local infrastructure."
