just entered the Latin American market by striking deals with customers
in both, Argentina and Mexico. The company announced contracts with
Argentinean
Telefnica de Argentina and
Maxcom Telecomunicaciones in Mexico.
"Our customers in
Latin America are relying on our advanced technology and services to
upgrade their networks and deploy new revenue-generating services," said
Victor Agnellini, president of Lucent Technologies in the Caribbean and
Latin American region. "Today's announcements build on that opportunity
and are a result of the strong relationships that Lucent has built with
leading service providers across this region and around the world and
the strength of Lucent's portfolio."
These new contracts
are said to aid Latin American operators to leverage their installed
base, expanding their broadband capacity, and turning to switching
solutions to help grow their businesses.
With Telefonica de
Argentina, Lucent just installed 80,000 new ADSL (Asynchronous Digital
Subscriber Line) Stinger FS+ access ports in the Argentinean net. More
than 60,000 of the new access ports deployed use DSLAM IP technology,
totaling 100,000 ports. Through this deal, Lucent will become the sole
supplier of DSLAM IP technology for Telefonica de Argentina, supporting
the operator in its plans to expand coverage and fast forward the intro
of broadband services like DSL and services over broadband in the
country.
Maxcom
Telecomunicaciones selected Lucent as its supplier of 5E-XC switch
software, from its Accelerate portfolio as an upgrade for Lucents 5ESS
switch to increase capacity and expand coverage. These network upgrades
will serve Maxcom as a base to expand its IP services to include
