agreement will allow the integrated global IP-based network provider to
deliver service to its enterprise and carrier customers over its MPLS-based
IP network.
Lucent is hooking up the
Global Crossing MPLS-based IP network with its LambdaUnite Multi-Service
Switch (MSS) and its Navis Optical Management System (OMS). Under the
agreement, Lucent signed up to also offer technical support and network
maintenance provided by its Worldwide Services division. The deal will
facilitate an easier delivery of voice, video and data traffic through
Global Crossings MPLS-based IP network. This new pact is expected to
surely enhance the companys VoIP and IP VPNs service offerings.
"The Lucent solution enables
us to launch new services and expand our existing Gigabit Ethernet
offerings and transparent wave services, while driving our overall
reliability and availability to even higher levels," said Dan Enright,
Global Crossing's executive vice president of operations
"The LambdaUnite MSS enables
Global Crossing to quickly offer various next-generation services to
meet the ever-changing demands of their customers," said Gerry Cafaro,
vice president of sales for Lucent.
The LambdaUnite MSS is an
optical transport system that ties traffic between data-intensive metro
networks and high-speed optical core networks, hooking up cities,
campuses and corporate networks to larger, long-haul public networks. It
adds Gigabit Ethernet services to service providers offerings. The
single-shelf system supports in-service upgrades from 160G to 320G, as
well as to 640G, allowing the system to grow when network capacity
increases.
With Lucent's Navis OMS in
place, Global Crossing's customers will experience single-user,
automated provisioning, routing and proactive service assurance of
optical networks and services allowing rapid turn-up of customer
services.
Global Crossing MPLS-based
network connects more than 300 cities and 30 countries worldwide, and
offers managed data and voice products including Global Crossing IP VPN
Service, Global Crossing Managed Services and Global Crossing VoIP
services.
