City of Salisbury Selects Amino Communications for IPTV ServicesBy Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor City of Salisbury, N.C., selected Amino Communications to provide the latest A140 and A540 MPEG-4 set top boxes as part of a major rollout of IPTV (News - Alert) services across a new all fiber network. Salisbury is targeting 10,000 subscribers for its new service as part of a major program to deliver advanced high-speed broadband access, entertainment services and local content to the local community under the brand name “Fibrant.” Officials with Amino Communications (News - Alert) said that for the first time in the North American market, the company as part of the contract will supply its new A140 and A540 PVR set-top boxes based on the latest STi7105 System on Chip (SoC) solutions. Amino is partnering with Minerva on the deployment, now underway. “Fiber to the Home defines a community just as good water, power and transportation has in the past. Our city can now compete in a global economy and also benefit from enhanced entertainment and community services. Amino’s products are aligned with our vision and provide the leading-edge capability, functionality and performance our customers expect,” said Len Clark, sales and marketing manager City of Salisbury, in a statement. Dan Carufel, director of sales with Amino Communications, said that the City of Salisbury is very forward looking and places great store in deploying the latest technology. “Our new A140 and A540 PVR are both brand new in the marketplace, and we’re delighted they have gained immediate acceptance in this highly competitive market. We look forward to working with the City of Salisbury and Minerva on this exciting rollout,” said Carufel.
