ITEXPO: NACT's VinciSoft Now Official Carrier Softswitch of FreeSWITCH ProjectBy Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Copy Editor ITEXPO is not only about businesses showcasing their products, as one company today made a rather significant announcement at the convention. NACT Solution’s VinciSoft application has become the official commercial carrier softswitch of the FreeSWITCH project, a free open source telephony platform designed to interconnect popular communication protocols using audio, video, text or any other form of media. A VoIP and TDM switching solution allowing service providers to integrate call routing services, Session Border Controller functionality, transcoding, billing, client management and reporting capabilities, the VinciSoft solution and FreeSWITCH will make it easier for carriers to optimize their networks and achieve revenue goals. According to Arnie Goodstein, president of NACT (News - Alert) Solutions, FreeSWITCH, which was created in 2006, will give carriers the ability to run VoIP on the networks through a “simple and cost-effective platform.” “Our VinciSoft Carrier switching application sits on top of the FreeSWITCH core to provide a turnkey switching application that features an intuitive web interface, and seamless integration with our BAT-1000 billing system, to provide full reporting, automated carrier shutdown, and warnings based upon real-time balances, least cost/percentage routing, and a host of other features,” said Goodstein. FreeSWITCH is being released under the MPL free software license, which permits recipients the rights to modify and redistribute the software. Libfreeswitch, its core library, is able to be embedded into other projects and is used as a stand-alone application. FreeSWITCH, which builds natively, can run on several operating systems including Windows, Max OS X, Linux, BSD and Solaris, on 32- and 64-bit platforms. Many SIP features are supported including presence/BLF/SLA, as well as TCP TLS and sRTP. It also supports FAX over audio and T.38. “For five nonstop years, we’ve been working on the FreeSWITCH core, to ensure stability and scalability, and now we’re focusing on the application layers,” said Anthony Minessale, lead developer and primary author of FreeSWITCH. “NACT brings extremely high standards, and great switching technology to the table, and we think they’re a perfect partner for us in the carrier space.” NACT’s VinciSoft Carrier Switching Solution facilitates direct peering with other service providers. It can be deployed in a VoIP-only mode, reducing costs and eliminating the need for proprietary hardware. To see VinciSoft in action, visit NACT’s booth, No. 236, at ITEXPO (News - Alert).
