ERC Net To Use Clear Software For Service
Assurance And Management
Clear, a global supplier of optical,
broadband and digital performance management software, announced that the
Education and Research Consortium Network (ERC Net), a subsidiary of the
ERCWC, will use its software to monitor
the transport layer (layer one) of ERC Net's network enabling real-time
performance-based service assurance and service management.
Proactive performance management allows network problems to be identified
before they impact service and also can reduce costs by utilizing existing
network assets more efficiently and effectively.
"Sixty percent of service-affecting problems occur at the transport layer
of the network that inevitably manifest to higher layers," said Tom
Richards, CEO of Clear. "Clear provides ERC Net with the functionality to
monitor its mission-critical transport technology, which will help to
prevent network delays that disrupt the entire organization."
"As a new network services provider focused on education, research and
economic development, ERC Net is in the unique position to take advantage
of Clear's ability to integrate with other off-the-shelf OSS software,
thus eliminating the need for ERC Net to develop costly custom software
solutions. This allows us to provide our network at a much lower cost and
with better performance than previous generation networks," said John
Short, general manager for ERC Net.
"Additionally, Clear's unique capability of supplying graphical fault and
performance trending reports will enable ERC Net to proactively resolve
issues and assure a greater level of network reliability for our network
partners and customers."
