AT&T ( News - Alert) is now offering up to 75 percent in discounts for international rates on phone calls carried out via its VoIP-based CallVantage Softphone Service. The telecom giant will now provide discounts to its subscribers calling a list comprised of approximately 40 international countries.
Sample rates include calls to the United Kingdom, Greece, Beijing and Germany for 2 cents a minute; Mexico City for 3 cents a minute, and New Delhi for 11 cents a minute.
“We know how important it is for families to keep in touch, whether relatives live down the street or across the world,” commented Anthony Tuggle, vice president of the AT&T Voice Services division. “As AT&T continues to expand its consumer offerings to better compete in and outside our traditional local service area, consumers are rewarded with compelling value.”
The AT&T CallVantage Softphone is currently available as a stand-alone service or when bundled with an existing AT&T CallVantage service account. Customers can choose from the AT&T CallVantage Softphone 300 Minute plan, which offers unlimited local calling and 300 minutes of domestic long distance calling for $10.99 monthly; and the AT&T CallVantage Softphone Unlimited plan, which offers unlimited local and long distance calling within the United States and to Canada and Puerto Rico for $19.99 monthly.
The full listing of international calling rates is available online.
AT&T had introduced the AT&T CallVantage Softphone service back in September. The move made it possible for subscribers to use the telecom giant’s residential VoIP calling service and features from a domestic broadband connection, at home or on the go (where E911 service is available).
The telecom had teamed up with SIP softphone developer CounterPath Solutions ( News - Alert) for this project. The Softphone service now enables users to make and receive phone calls directly through their computer. The software can be easily downloaded to a PC or laptop. It features Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voicemail, Call Logs, Do-Not-Disturb and Locate Me services.
