Performance Launches AdvancedMC Single Board Computer

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributing Editor

Performance Technologies (News - Alert), a supplier of integrated IP-based platforms and solutions for advanced communications networks and innovative computer system architectures, has launched AMC122, yet another addition to the company's suite of AdvancedMC (News - Alert) (Advanced Mezzanine Card or AMC) single board computers.

AMC is the next-generation mezzanine standard set to advance the modularity of carrier-grade communication platforms. Designed for MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) applications, this newly-launched full-sized AMC module features an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz processor. MicroTCA (Telecom Computing Architecture) and AdvancedTCA are the industry standard specifications for the next generation of carrier grade communications equipment.

Lower cost applications and configurations now have a standards-based platform, which utilizes existing technologies and advantages developed for AdvancedTCA products, in a form factor that fits diverse packaging solutions and is largely compatible at application level.

"Emerging design applications in telecommunications, aerospace and defense, enterprise, and industrial settings are pushing the envelope on compute requirements," said Tony Romero, senior product manager at Performance Technologies.

"Our AMC122, when combined with our award-winning MicroTCA (News - Alert) platform, the MTC5070, and Carrier Grade Linux OS, NexusWare, offer a ready-to-use, very high-performance and cost-effective solution for next-generation MicroTCA-based applications, such as communication servers, security, and data acquisition and processing applications," Romero added.

AMC122 features 2.16GHz Intel (News - Alert) Core 2, dual-core architecture, supporting up to 8 GB DRAM, Onboard MiniSD card site with program and operating system storage space, enabling the module to boot without an external connection, TCP/IP Offload (TOE), iSCSI, RDMA on Ethernet Channels, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology for more efficient power management, low latency, high bandwidth and so on.

The newly-launched product is compatible with Performance Technologies' MicroTCA platform, the MTC5070. Additionally, the PC can be fully pre-integrated using the company's Linux OS and development environment, NexusWare.
