SanDisk Brings Automatic Online Backup to USB Flash Drives with New Cruzer Titanium Plus

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

SanDisk (News - Alert) Corporation has announced Cruzer Titanium Plus, a USB flash drive that offers automatic online backup for every file copied to the drive. The online backup service requires Windows 2000 (SP4), Windows XP or Windows Vista. After six months of free service, online backup costs $29.99 per year (credit card required).

Cruzer Titanium Plus is easy and quick to install. It also comes with six months of free online backup service. All you need to do is to open a personal password-protected online account and all files copied to the drive – such as documents, photos, digital music, spreadsheets, digital video or work presentations will be backed up online. If there is no internet connection when you copy the files to drive, the drive will make the backup files next time, when the Internet connection is available.

Cruzer Titanium Plus, with a capacity of four gigabytes (GB)1, is the first flash memory product from SanDisk to offer online backup. With Cruzer Titanium Plus, users get access online and offline and data is always available. Even if the drive is corrupted, lost or stolen, the user will still have access to all the files stored in the drive on the net.

Hezy Rotman, vice president and general manager of SanDisk’s USB Division, said in a company press release, “This is true ‘set it and forget it’ data protection. Many users have told us they worry about losing their data, and now SanDisk is reducing that anxiety through an innovative new form of online backup. We believe Cruzer Titanium Plus will encourage people to use flash drives for storing important data, not just transferring files from one computer to another.”

With a manufacturer’s suggested retail prices of $59.99, Cruzer Titanium Plus is expected to be available in the United States in March. The company will feature Cruzer Titanium Plus at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show from Jan. 7 to 10, where SanDisk will be demonstrating products at Booth #30768, South Hall 3, in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
