Panasonic Unveils High-Def 3MOS Camcorders

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Panasonic has introduced its full-high definition 3MOS camcorders to its 2011 line.

The HDC-TM900, HDC-HS900 and HDC-SD800 full-HD camcorders feature 1920 x 1080 resolution with 1080/60p recording to create crisp, detailed videos. They can be used to also shoot 3D videos when used with Panasonic’s (News - Alert) optional 3D Conversion Lens (VW-CLT1).

The devices incorporate Panasonic’s 3MOS system, which is an advanced technology used in professional-level equipment. The new camcorders can record bright, low-noise videos, even in low lighting.

Some other optimized features include a manual ring for increased creativity, a 20x zoom and an intuitive 3.5 inches touch-screen LCD on the TM900 and HS900.

Chris Rice (News - Alert), senior product manager of imaging for Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, said in a release, “We expect that the new Full-HD 3MOS camcorders will be our best yet, with image quality that rivals professional video equipment and further advancements on last year’s award-winning predecessors.”

“The full-HD camcorders not only have that added wow-factor – with 3D video shooting capability – but consumers can also capture amazing 2D videos, easily with our larger, more intuitive touch-screen LCDs,” Rice added.

According to company officials, by leveraging the 3D conversion lens, users can optimize video recording and record 3D images. After recording, consumers can play back the 3D images or video on a VIERA 3DTV, a compatible 3D TV, or through an AVCHD-compatible player/recorder, such as Panasonic’s Blu-ray Disc player.

The HDC-TM900 and HDC-HS900 feature 3.5 inches LCDs, while the HDC-SD800 features a 3.0 inches LCD. Both the models feature wide screens, and are easier to use with advanced touch operation that enables smooth shooting and playback. The new touch operation functions include touch zoom, which allows swift zooming by finger movement. The touch shutter can also automatically focus and take a photo by touching the subject on the screen.

Panasonic sources added that the new models will feature Crystal Engine PRO, which can instantly process large amounts of data that goes into full-HD quality for extremely clear, crisp motion images. The Crystal Engine PRO increases sensitivity and reduces noise by 45 percent thereby producing brighter images with less noise even when shooting under low-light conditions.

Intelligent resolution technology ensures sharp, beautifully colored motion images, while intelligent zoom enables high-powered 20x zooming besides also correcting the image degradation that occurs in ordinary digital zooming.
