Accelerated Announces "Switched VoDSL" For
Broadband
Accelerated Networks has developed what they are calling
"switched DSL," incorporating ATM switched virtual circuits (SVCs)
over DSL, thereby eliminating the need to manually configure voice
services and improving network scaling properties. The ATM SVC technology
simplifies network deployment and provides increased flexibility in
routing voice calls. Unlike preconfigured PVCs, SVCs can be automatically
created on demand. Additionally, switched DSL allows subscribers to
dynamically connect to a local switch, a long-distance switch, a soft
switch, or directly to other corporate locations, often allowing users to
bypass local exchange switches and even the PSTN altogether.

PairGain Launches Skyrocket G.Lite Modems
PairGain Technologies has launched their Skyrocket DSL modems.
Fully compliant with the G.lite standard, Skyrocket modems incorporate
G.hs (G.handshake) and "fast retrain," two capabilities deemed
critical to the widespread deployment of G.lite. G.hs and fast retrain are
key elements of the ITU standards intended to make G.lite modems as
user-friendly as today's analog modems. G.hs allows G.lite modems to
automatically negotiate speed and connect to a DSLAM at the highest
possible data rate, while fast retrain lets the modems quickly adjust to
the line conditions to handle the presence of a voice signal. These new
protocols are aimed at reducing the need for an installer visit to each
DSL service location.
