In an effort to step up their growing applications business, and specifically their call center business solutions, Toshiba (News - Alert) America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division, has announced the signing of an exclusive licensing agreement with OAISYS for the rights to their OAISYS ACD product line.

As per the licensing agreement, Toshiba will receive, "exclusive global rights to the intellectual property and source codes." The agreement also provides them with the ability to "formally acquire the OAISYS ACD intellectual property."

With the newly signed agreement, Toshiba will have the ability to grow and build upon their current Strata CIX IP business solutions as well as create future ACD applications that are valuable and meet their customers need for business integration solutions with call center capabilities.

All OAISYS ACD products will be sold only through Toshiba, who currently sells the ACD as Strata. Other offerings included in the new agreement include, Voice Assistant, Net Phone, IVR and Call Router—all of which are compatible with Strata.

"This is a strategic investment for Toshiba, demonstrating our commitment to our growing applications business. Our call center business is currently growing 30 percent year over year. This agreement empowers us to increase our ACD solutions capabilities and accelerate our time-to- market for our family of Strata CI IP business communications systems as well as future platforms," said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba's Telecommunication Systems Division in a statement to the press.

Earlier this month, Toshiba's Telecommunication Systems Division also made headlines when they announced the enhancement of their Video Communication Solution, VCS, with version 2.0 for its Strata CIX family of business communication systems.

With VCS, users are able to collaborate and share their desktop or applications, transfer files and communicate via a message board as well as share in point-to-point video conferences and with version 2.0, video telephony is possible on Toshiba's entire line of phone and endpoints.
