ICI Opts for Aruba Wireless LAN for its Sites Worldwide

By Niladri Sekhar Nath, TMCnet Contributing Editor

ICI PLC, manufacturer of paint, adhesives and specialty products, has opted for Aruba Networks’ (News - Alert) wireless LAN and security solutions to use at sites worldwide.

“Aruba offered a fully secure, completely user-friendly product that fully integrated into ICI’s existing systems. ICI had held-off implementing wireless LANs within its premises, and we were initially skeptical of the ability to deliver a mobile computing experience that was both transparent to the user and automatically secure,” said Paul Simmonds, global security director at ICI. “We therefore thoroughly tested products from our short-listed vendors in search of the perfect fit. Only Aruba met all of our requirements.”

ICI manufactures decorative coatings products for the consumer and construction industries, adhesives for the electronics and packaging markets as well as industrial uses, specialty starches for the food industry, and specialty polymers for personal care products. The company has about 26,000 employees and operates in more than 55 countries.

ICI turned to Aruba Networks, as the company was looking for a scalable networking architecture to support both existing facilities and mobile users roaming abroad. The wireless LAN at ICI sites leverages Aruba 6000 Mobility Controllers and access points. In addition, Aruba’s Remote Access Points will help mobile and home workers securely connect to the corporate network.

“ICI is representative of many large enterprises with remotely located facilities and scores of mobile users. Every user, regardless of location, needs reliable, secure access to enterprise applications,” said Rob Pronk, Aruba’s vice president of EMEA sales. “Aruba’s user-centric network provides ‘follow-me’ connectivity and security using centralized policy and network management that scales to networks of virtually any size. The net result, as ICI demonstrates, is a ‘follow-me’ enterprise that brings business-critical application to all users.”
