Colubris (News - Alert) Networks announced Monday that iCELL Networks has adopted its solutions to enable wireless Internet access throughout the entire downtown and eastern regions of Singapore.

Leveraging the iCELL partnership, Colubris is providing WiFi equipment to two of the three network operators participating in the Singapore Government's Wireless@SG initiative. In an effort to boost the country's wireless Internet usage and become a more globally connected nation, this program offers three years of free WiFi (News - Alert) service to residents and visitors.

Colubris MultiService Access Points ( MAPs) and MultiService Controllers ( MACs) will be installed at some of Singapore's most popular public venues including shopping centers, cafes, libraries and hotels. Colubris MAPs was reportedly chosen due to their deployment flexibility, ability to integrate with the operators' existing architectures, ease of use and the product's proven reliability and exceptional performance.

“Colubris and its local team are longstanding, trusted partners, with a strong technology offering and an impressive track record of successful global deployments with leading wireless carriers and enterprises,” said Ken Chua, CEO of iCELL, in a statement.

Chua believes Colubris will allow them to quickly roll out high-quality WiFi access, while providing a smooth migration path and scalability as they choose to add applications, such as voice over IP, for Wireless@SG subscribers. He said that D- Synergy, Colubris' Singapore distributor, provided excellent backend technical support throughout the project.

According to Doreen Sim, managing director of D-Synergy, Colubris is a committed vendor with one of the industry's leading wireless LAN solutions. Sim said that they are proud to partner with Colubris to offer the best support services for valued wireless Internet service providers like iCELL Network (News - Alert).

In the initial phase, Colubris MAPs will be installed at more than 100 locations, and a thousand public area hotspots to be added to the iCELL network throughout the coming year.
