Meraki Networks recently introduced the Meraki Outdoor repeater and the Meraki Solar accessory. The company claims these two products change the economics of high-speed wireless connections to homes by bringing down the cost to $1 to $2 a month.
The outdoor repeater can be mounted on a wall or a pole outside and enables dozens of households to share a single wireless high-speed connection, as it sends signals up to 700 feet. For this it has to be paired with Meraki’s existing indoor mini. The repeater is priced at $99 whereas indoor mini is available for $49.
The Meraki Solar accessory kit, which includes a solar panel, battery pack and an outdoor Ethernet
cable, will unwire even the power supply. It allows the repeater to broadcast a signal without being connected to an electrical source. Meraki says the solar kit is an ideal solution for an uninterrupted power supply where regular electric supply is unreliable.
Meanwhile, the Meraki Dashboard is a web-hosted management tool designed to make monitoring and configuring easy. The dashboard is included with all Meraki products for no additional charge.
“The Meraki Solar and Meraki Outdoor will play an important role in our efforts to bring the next billion people online in the coming years,” said Sanjit Biswas, CEO and a co-founder of Meraki.
Even though the kits were launched few moths back, they’ve already became popular globally. Today, more than 1,000 Meraki networks are providing access to about 40,000 homes in more than 35 countries.
