Alion Science and Technology Awarded $ 7.8 M Army Contract

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions provider, reportedly has been awarded $7.8M Army contract to ensure wireless spectrum access for critical communications and sensor systems.

The company officials said that the contract, issued under the Alion-operated Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center contract vehicle, will provide Army Spectrum (News - Alert) Management Office with the technical services needed to ensure that adequate RF spectrum access is available for current and future Army platforms.

The Alion-operated MSIAC, the U.S. Department of Defense center for integrated support of the M&S community, provides broad support for M&S programs throughout the government.

In addition, M&S University, developed by Alion for the MSIAC, provides training on using M&S to make training, acquisition, logistics and experimentation more effective.
“Constraints on real-time access to RF spectrum are a risk to both Warfighters and first responders at home,” said Sue Archer, senior vice president and manager of the operational solutions group, Alion in a statement.

Archer said that Alion’s modeling, simulation and spectrum experts will help ASMO determine the operational effectiveness of Army communications and sensor systems.

“We’ll also be helping ASMO plan for the future of national and international RF spectrum use. More efficient RF spectrum use can result in better information assurance and higher rates of information transfer, which ultimately benefits the Warfighter,” said Archer.

Alion officials said that as part of the contact, the company will provide a dynamic means to design, test, and certify spectrum-dependent system technology, develop improved software tools to model RF compatibility and availability on the battlefield and assist ASMO in evaluating Wireless Network after Next technology.

WNaN can dynamically sense, characterize, react and adapt to changing network conditions.

Alion will research and identify RF spectrum management and modeling issues associated with WNaN and make recommendations for effectively addressing these issues.
