Shunra Software Releases New Version of VE Network Catcher

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Shunra Software has released version 4.6 of VE Network Catcher, a network behavior recording tool which brings the real-world network environment into the performance lab.

This newest version comes equipped with advanced remote recording. Company officials said that this feature enables users to record network behavior from any remote endpoint back to the data center or any other location.

In addition, it also automatically communicates the behavior recording back to the Network Catcher Server. Officials said that this new Web browser-based feature supports recording of network behavior from endpoints behind firewalls/network address translation (NAT) devices, wireless access points (WAP) and mobile 2G/3G networks.

Shunra’s (News - Alert) VE Network Catcher is a agent-less network monitor solution, enabling fast record, import and replay of production network conditions such as latency, packet loss and route changes.

In the Shunra VE Suite or VE Desktop applications, statistics are imported and analyzed. Officials said that this makees application performance testing under accurate and true-to-life conditions possible.

Additionally, this lightweight approach allows recordings of WAN link performance from endpoints located off-net at business partner locations.

VE Network Catcher supports TCP-based probing protocol, and can measure network behavior by selecting among a group of probing protocols. In addition to Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) probing, VE Network Catcher options for HTTP and TCP probing captures behavior of those protocols across the WAN.

Bojan Simic, research analyst at Aberdeen (News - Alert), believes that the latest version of Network Catcher may become an instrumental tool in application performance efforts as test and network professionals become increasingly concerned with efficiencies and accountability.

“Our customers requested that we expand our network monitoring solution to make it easier to configure, simpler to deploy, even more accurate, and extremely scalable,” said Matt Reid, vice president of worldwide marketing at Shunra Software.

Reid said that the company has addressed all of these requirements and has delivered a robust testing suite that resolves performance issues throughout each stage of the application development lifecycle.

Shunra Software is a provider of WAN emulation solutions for application performance testing throughout the entire application development lifecycle.

Also this month, the company launched an Application Performance Management Blog, calling it a public platform geared towards the professional needs of application developers, quality assurance and performance testers, network engineers and IT managers.
