Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0 to Redefine Mobile Internet Experience

By Niladri Sekhar Nath, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The mobile Internet experience is set to get a “facelift” with Yahoo! Inc. launching a beta version of Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0.

Yahoo! Go 2.0 comes with a unique product design, the ability to personalize with content from the entire Internet, and a “reinvention” of mobile search.

The Yahoo! Go 2.0 beta is available for consumers to download on Motorola’s (News - Alert) new MOTORAZR maxx V6 and MOTORAZR V3xx devices.

“Yahoo! intends to be the number one mobile Internet player globally,” said Marco Boerries, senior vice president of connected life, Yahoo!, in a press release. “Today we are changing the game by putting the full power of the open Internet into consumers’ pockets. Yahoo! Go 2.0 creates an entirely new and beautiful experience that fits great phones, like the new MOTORAZR maxx V6 or V3xx devices.”

Yahoo! Go 2.0 will initially be pre-loaded on select new mobile devices from Motorola. Consumers can also download Yahoo! Go 2.0 on more than 70 other mobile devices from major manufacturers worldwide.

“Consumers crave cool experiences on the coolest devices and the desire for seamless connectivity has never been stronger,” said Scott Durchslag, corporate vice-president of product and xperience invention, Motorola mobile devices. “Integrating services like Yahoo! Go 2.0 with Motorola devices enables consumers to stay connected with the people, places and information they want, whenever they want it.”

Yahoo! Go 2.0 comes with various useful features. For example, the “Local & Maps” widget gives consumers quick access to comprehensive local directory information for businesses across the US, enhanced with ratings and reviews from the Yahoo! community. The e-mail widget allows consumers to quickly respond to, delete or compose new messages or view attachments with a single click.

Yahoo! Go 2.0 also offers current headlines and a breaking news ticker in the News, Sports, Entertainment, Weather and Finance widgets to keep consumers connected to all the latest information.

IP Multimedia Subsystems, a way to bridge the circuit-switched technology of yesteryear to the packet-switched realm of tomorrow, represents the lifeblood for service providers today. And the best way to understand all of the implications of this next-generation enabling technology is to make the IMS EXPO a must-attend event, collocated with INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO EAST, January 23–26, 2007. See you in sunny Ft. Lauderdale!
