ABP to Distribute Altai's Super Wi-Fi Base Stations

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

First debuted at TMC’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) West 2008, the new Altai products are helping ABP to enable Service Providers to create powerful and robust Wi-Fi hotspots almost everywhere for all types of Internet services. ABP (News - Alert) has identified greatest growth rates in high-traffic areas, especially where there are many business travelers.

ABP Technology is a value-added distributor of IP Telephony and IP Video solutions and services marketed throughout North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. Robert Messer (News - Alert), president of ABP Technology noted that market demand for Wi-Fi in open public areas is gaining exponentially.

“ With the rapidly growing usage of handheld devices like the Apple (News - Alert) iPhone, windows Mobile devices, smaller lighter laptops and surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi is seeing a rebirth,” he stated.

Altai Technologies (News - Alert) is a high technology company focused on the design, development and marketing of innovative outdoor wireless broadband solutions. ABP selected Altai because they specialize in the design, development and manufacturing of innovative outdoor and indoor broadband wireless solutions with a special focus on the 802.11 Wi-Fi standards.

Altai's flagship product, the A8 Wi-Fi base station, has the ability to effectively improve the non-line-of-sight Wi-Fi signal coverage. The extended radius minimizes the interference effect of other signals in the unlicensed frequency spectrum to reach in excess of 500 meters.

Although the new 3G networks are sufficient to operate for email and messaging applications, travelers want to use wired Internet or a Wi-Fi hotspot for better connections to their virtual desktops or to load movies and music files. The company points out that a number of overseas travelers do not have 3G roaming agreements and are dependent on Wi-Fi to stay connected.

The demand driven wave of Wi-Fi deployment offers a more lucrative financial model to the operators of Wi-Fi networks. Tier one through tier three service providers have recognized a quick return on investment and are therefore getting into this business, said the company’s officials.
